The Walking Dead - Season 5, Episode 12 - Remember (Preview)

So this is new. Maybe it's because I've found myself at a loose end in terms of things to write wrestling wise. Inspiration normally crops up around the time of ICW shows and WWE PPVs, so later this month will be productive. For now though, I'm going to do a preview of The Walking Dead, which airs episode 12 of it's season 5 later on tonight. The episode is called Remember and the description of the episode is as follows:

"Molding into a new lifestyle is proving difficult to the group. Has life on the road proven too treacherous to go back to who they once were?"

Here are some of my thoughts on what we can expect from tonight's episode.

Aerial shot of the Alexandria Safe Zone
Taking it back to last week's episode, we ended off with Rick and the group standing outside the gates of Alexandria, with Rick's earlier words to Michonne clearly still playing on his mind. When they first came across Woodbury, there was silence. When they first entered Terminus, there was silence. As episode 11 comes to a close, we can hear children playing from behind Alexandria's gates, and Rick's expression changes. He makes the decision to take his family in, they have perhaps just found their new home.

  • Watching the promo video for tonight's episode, it's obvious that our group are struggling to let their guards down once they get inside Alexandria, and that settling in will prove to be a bit of a challenge. I fully expect that this will be a bit of a filler episode, with introductions to a few of the main characters from the Alexandria Safe Zone, and their initial interactions with our group of survivors. As was seen last week, Rick still has a trust problem when it comes to other people, and who can really blame him? Even if I do think he was a bit harsh on Aaron, he has every right to be skeptical of new communities of survivors. On the topic of Rick, I think the time may have come for the beard to go, sad times.

  • In terms of any big events and such, it's highly unlikely that anything major will happen, except the fact that they've now entered probably the most important (in varying opinion) location from the comic book series. I won't spoil anything, but those of us who know the comic books realize that the group's time in Alexandria will be full of epic moments and surprises, so to expect something massive to happen within the first episode there is really expecting a lot. With the season finale confirmed to have a run time of 90 minutes, it's safe to assume that the first encounter with a real threat to Alexandria will occur either in episode 15 or during the finale itself.

  • However, the huge herd of walkers that Abraham and co. encountered earlier in the season are yet to come into play, and it may just be that they become a threat before any group of humans. The Wolves, presumably the TV show version of The Scavengers, seem to be the next set of human survivors that we'll come across, after the warnings left at Shirewilt. They may not even appear until season 7 though, or at least being introduced at the very end of the finale. I just can't believe that they could run the walker invasion and properly begin the Wolves story arc in just the final five episodes of the season. As I said, there's plenty of time to develop all the beautiful arcs that are still to come and there's no real need to hurry in to them.

  • There may also be an update on the status of Morgan, who is hot in pursuit of Rick and the others. We last seen him in the post-credits of the mid-season finale, Coda, when he stumbles across Father Gabriel's church, finding the map to Washington with Rick's name on it. Logically, he'll have started to follow the map, and if so, we can expect to see Morgan joining the group sooner rather than later. It would be cool to see a small update on where he is at the moment, and given what the nature of this episode is likely to be, even a small segment with Morgan would break up the group's inspection of Alexandria nicely.

Final thoughts on what to expect - I'm pretty excited about our first look inside Alexandria, what people we may meet and just how exactly Rick and the others are able to (or unable to) adapt to their new environment. I'm guessing that the main focus of the episode will be on Rick, Carl, Daryl and perhaps Michonne. Simply because out of all the survivors, they are probably the least trusting of other people, and adapting into a place that isn't initially their's will prove to be difficult for them. All being said though, it may prove to be somewhat of a filler episode and more of a prelude to some really good shit that'll be happening from here on out. Seeing as this is only the first Walking Dead post I've done, I'd appreciate feedback and for everyone to let me know what they think, and if you have different opinions about what you think will happen with Rick and the group, let me know! I'll maybe do a review of the episode tomorrow depending on the mood, but for now, I'm off!
