ICW: Brush Your Goose Preview

Insane Championship Wrestling: Brush Your Goose
Sunday, 7th December 2014
The Garage, Glasgow
Doors - 7pm
Bell Time - 7.30pm

Ahhh ICW, it's been too long. After the debacle that was my idiocy in not buying a ticket for Fear & Loathing, I almost feel like the way I felt before my first ICW. Like a wee wean at Christmas. Which may just be me getting into the Christmas spirit, seeing as it's now mere weeks away. But in the context of things, fuck Christmas, because there's two ICW Sundays in the next three weeks... starting with this one right here! This is as excited for any wrestling show I've been this year, because, simply, it's fuckin cracking. I'll let the matches do the talking though. So here's how the show is shaping up...

Wolfgang & BT Gunn - Contract Signing

The hottest rivalry in European pro wrestling has to come to an end one day, and it may just be sooner than we want. Never have two wrestlers engaged in such emotionally charged encounters than Wolfang and BT Gunn. These two have gone through the mill. NAK interference on several occasions made Wolfgang even more determined to get his hands on his cousin and put a stop to his torment. A dog collar match took them to the limits, but ultimately didn't settle the score. A last man standing match kept both men down for the count, and ended in a draw. The writing was on the wall for a long time, the only way to keep anyone from getting in or out of a Wolfang vs BT Gunn match was for it to be contested within a steel cage. The challenge was made by Wolfgang, and the plan is to have them sign a contract which makes it official for the Square Go next month. We've watched wrestling for long enough to know it won't be as easy as that. Expect a brawl, with at least a dozen teeth and a few pens flying into your drinks at one point. Maybe there'll be signatures, or at least I hope there will be otherwise the match won't happen. Logic mate.

Joe Coffey vs Liam Thomson w/Carmel

Simple process here. Two great wrestlers, in a wrestling match. Not much need for any ongoing rivalry to make this thing work. Joe is coming off the back of successfully winning his best of five series against Noam Dar. He'll have championship gold well ad truly in his sights now, and this could be the first step towards achieving just that. After a huge win over the Buckys at Fear & Loathing, Liam Thomson and Carmel came up short at Fear & Lothian, when faced with a reunited Bucky Boys, and you get the feeling that those two teams aren't quite through just yet. Originally, I had Bad Boy down as the contender to Joe's Iron Man title at the Square Go, so I was more than pleasantly surprised when I saw this match announced. Much like his battles with Dar, Coffey faces another adversary who's just as technically adept as he is, and this will make for one of the matches of the night without a doubt.

Dickie Divers vs Mikey Whiplash

Card subject to change. Noam Dar has been withdrawn due to injury, and will be replaced by the unsung hero of the NAK, and holder of the nation's heart - Dickie Divers. Of course, Divers was supposed to challenge for the tag titles before Darkside withdrew through injury, so unforeseen circumstances bring us a wee treat, Mikey Whiplash has been a different type of proposition recently. He's in the shape of his life, he seems to have gotten even better than before, and made his triumphant return to ICW as the newest member - or just ally? - of the Sumerian Death Squad. Together, they defeated the NAK at the Barras, before Whiplash marked his return to singles action with a win over Darkside at Fear & Lothian II, in what was a match of the year candidate. Divers has been ona  bit of a roll recently, receiving a match for the ICW title against Jack Jester, and giving good showings against the likes of Sha Samuels, but ultimately came up short. He had found himself being blamed for recent NAK defeats before Renfrew re-installed his faith. You know that Renfrew will be keeping a close eye on this match, and Divers will be determined to do the leader of the NAK proud, by taking down the former ICW Heavyweight Champion.

Grado & A Mystery Partner vs Martin Stone & Sha Samuels

Normally, I'd be sitting here in a situation like this, and be able to make solid predictions as to who Grado's partner could be. He found hauners in the form of the Bucky Boys in Edinburgh, but they two will be occupied elsewhere on the card, so it's an absolute guessing game. Saw suggestions spanning from Kay Lee Ray to Rampage Brown, to my personal dream pick... Colt Cabana. It's an awfully long shot but I can't think of anyone on the roster who would make sense as Grado's partner who isn't already on the card in one way or another. Damo may be another fair shout. In all honesty, it wouldn't be an ICW show without a surprise or two, so I think we'll be treated to a return of sorts. Someone we may not see coming. Haven't a clue who, but that's my way of thinking. Stone and Samuels have made it clear that they want to stir shit up in ICW, and Grado is their first victim. They said if anyone tries to help him out, they'll end up the same way. I believe them. Couple of scary big English fuckers. Grado has aw the heart in the world, but unless his hauners are exceptional, this might be a rough night at the office for the Stevenson Dream.

The Gatecrashers vs Polo Promotions (Non-title match)

An absolute belter of a surprise match, albeit under some unfortunate circumstances. This was originally supposed to be a Tag Team titles match, with Dickie Divers and Darkside of the NAK challenging the champs, Polo Promotions. However, Darkside has been forced to withdraw from the rest of his bookings in 2014 at least through injury, safe to say I hope he has a speedy recovery. They couldn't have found more able deputies though, as The Gatecrashers have been climbing the ranks in Scotland recently, and coming out of the Spacebaws roster, they get a golden opportunity to show us all what they're made of on the big stage. Polo and Coffey shouldn't underestimate the young team of Saynt and Conrad, but I would be surprised to see them pick up the win on their main roster debut. May just be a hidden gem on this card.

Kenny Williams (c) vs Davey Boy vs Stevie Boy vs Paul London (ICW Zero-G Championship Match)

FINALLY! I get to see Paul London live! As I've mentioned before, he and Kendrick are among my favorite tag teams of all time, and I've been gutted to miss them over the past few shows they've been on. This is the night though, and they couldn't have picked a better match to throw him into. Another huge test for Kenny Williams as Zero-G champ, as the Bollocks seems to have defended the title successfully about a hunner times now. He of course faces London, and both Bucky Boys here, who are looking for a taste of singles gold of their own, after huge success in the tag division. You've got to believe this will be some fast-paced shit right here, with no doubt some team-work from the Buckys before we presumably get the confrontation between the two. If given all the time it needs, this could be an absolute wonder of a match to behold. Williams has a big date with Joe Hendry (Glooooobal Heroooooo) at Spacebaws on the 21st though, and for no reason other than that, I fancy him to add another hard fought title defense to his ever impressing run as champ.

Drew Galloway (c) vs Kid Fite (ICW Heavyweight Championship Match)

I think everyone and their granny thought that Johnny Moss would be filling the challenger's slot in this match going into Fear & Lothian II. Yer main man Kid Fite had other ideas though, and one of the most consistent guys in Scotland this year gets his shot at ICW's top prize. He is one of the most respected wrestlers in the country, with more than enough ability to win any title on his best day, but he has the small matter of facing the prodigal son himself here. Drew Galloway won the ICW title in a brutal match against best friend Jack Jester at Fear & Loathing, and now looks to build on his promise of taking ICW to the next level as the champion. Someone with as much determination as Drew will be difficult to contend with, and eyeing a huge match with Chris Renfrew at the Square Go, you can't bet against Galloway confidently here. Fito will look to be the spoiler in that plan though, and there's no doubt in my mind that the notorious tea-bagger will have the match of his career, in pursuit of Scottish wrestling's richest prize. Renfrew may have "confirmed" that he's cashing in at Square Go, but we can't forget that card is always subject to change. Even after this match - no matter the winner - they better keep one eye on the ramp, because the last thing you want to do is make yourself any less prepared for a hungry Chris Renfrew, especially when he carries the right to a penalty kick at your championship.

As is the usual script by now, should there be any further changes or matches added to the show I'll be quick as can be in getting it updated on here. So in conclusion, perhaps one of the best lineups we've seen this year? I would certainly say so. I genuinely have no clue how this show hasn't sold out yet. Everyone get onto this, as it's looking to be one of the shows of the year, and will no doubt help see out 2014 in true ICW style. Not to mention the after-party is at Cathouse afterwards. Free entry with your ticket stub and drinks from £1, and of course the pre-party in Box before the show.

Sunday, Garage, 7, be there.
